St. Georges
(near Quelven)

Brittany holiday gites & homes; St. Georges, near QuelvenSt Georges is a small hamlet on a single track road, situated in the heart of the Breton countryside between the villages of Boderel and Quelven. There are about a dozen people living in the hamlet and apart from the English teacher nobody speaks English. The natural tongue is Breton, but French is spoken. I have owned the house for 15 years and many of the villagers are now good friends.

St. Georges is a very peaceful place, the nearest shop is at Le Sourn some 4 miles away. There are some beautiful walks and cycle rides from the house and the coastal beaches lie approx. 40 minutes drive south. The nearest town is Pontivy, 6 miles to the north, St. Georges, near Quelven, Brittany giteswhich although small is busy and bustling with its cobbled streets, chateau, timbered buildings and markets. It is good for shopping, restaurants cafes and bars.

The house itself is quite secluded and is a typical two bedroom Breton Stone Cottage built approx. 100 years ago.

To the right of the house is a barn where we store tools etc. At right angles to the main house is another cottage with a tin roof, which I also own. As you can see has not been renovated. It is used to store bikes, garden furniture, BBQ etc. This house dates back to 1505.

To the front of the main house is a traditional stone well and to the back of the house is an acre of garden. The first half of the garden is grassed but I have allowed my neighbour Holiday Homes in Brittany; St. Georges, near QuelvenAlbert to use the bottom half for his crops. You may see him down there every so often and he may call in to say "Bonjour" and is very amenable to a glass of red wine. The patio at the back of the house is a suntrap throughout the day.

The house is fully furnished and well equipped with all mod-cons. There is a log burning stoveBrittany gites; St. Georges, near Quelvenand a good log store as well as central heating. The bedrooms have a double, 2 single, 1 put-u-up type beds, as well as a travel cot if needed.
