Property and Facilities

The Cottage is designed for two or three guests with the emphasis on comfort. It has modern stylish furniture and fabrics and a fully equipped kitchen. The living room opens onto a large veranda, fully furnished for dining and lounging in cushioned comfort.

Originally a huge barn, part is now rebuilt as the cottage and the remaining vast floor area has been transformed into a private walled garden. This is open at one end, giving views of the surrounding vineyards and the valley, extending as far as the Chateau of Biron, 35 km away. The two owners John Floyd and Michael Donaldson, live across the courtyard and guests have the benefit of their presence and help when needed without losing any privacy.
The cottage has an L shaped living room; the sitting area has a comfortable sofa and two easy chairs together with a Satellite/TV/Video and CD player. The dining area has a round dining table and chairs.
The Kitchen is very well equipped, has attractive china and fine glass ware. There is a full sized gas cooker with grill; microwave oven; large fridge and 3 drawer freezer; dishwasher; filter coffee machine; toaster; electric kettle; ceiling fan and all the other items you will need. There is a handsome Godin wood burning stove and electric heating throughout.
To the right of the living room is the main bedroom with fitted carpet, king sized bed and fitted wardrobe. The en-suite bathroom has full sized bath with rounded shower end (thermostatically regulated shower), hand basin, bidet and WC.
On the opposite side of the living room is the second bedroom. This is the smaller but has a double bed and it's own shower room with hand basin and WC.
Through the French windows is the large covered terrace, it is in effect an outdoor living room. Fully furnished with table, cushioned dining and relaxing chairs. Electric barbeque.
This haven overlooks the walled garden with its lawn, massed pots of flowers and blooming shrubs. There are cushioned sun beds to place where you wish. This area is not overlooked, is sheltered and very private. There are steps down to the pool and main landscaped garden. The pool is 11m long and from the paved terrace are Roman steps to enter the pool. The pool has a salt treatment unit and is available at all times.

Location and Activities

The Dordogne region is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday. Beautiful bastide towns, wonderfully green countryside and some of the best food and wine in France. The landscape is ordered and almost manicured at times but broken into distinct areas by woods and forest. Gentle undulating land gives way to massive limestone outcrops carved to strange shapes by the Dordogne River and hiding the prehistoric painted caves of early man.

Bergerac Area

Tourist Sites: The region is awash with places to visit from painted caves, the medieval shrine of Rocamadour and Sarlat,up the river; the bastide towns and the Chateaux of Biron and Monbazillac.

Food & Wine: The food of the region is very special. A wonderful supply of goose, duck, foie gras, prunes, walnuts,
strawberries and fresh vegetables.
Restaurants: Within a short drive there is a wide range of places to eat, from simple to grand. Our list of suggested restaurants is in the cottage, frequently up-dated.
Sport: We are close to the excellent Golf Course at the Chateau de Vigier, friendly and welcoming to visitors. There are three other golf courses within easy reach. There is canoeing on the Dordogne River and designated routes for walkers.
