One of two charming stone cottages in a large garden with above ground pool. Lovely rural location next to fields of sunflowers, maize and woods. Close to a lovely village.

The cottage sits in it's one acre garden surrounded by fields of maize and sunflowers. A quiet lane runs past, along which you can take peaceful walks to nearby woods. The house faces south and has it's own patio and terrace area with patio furniture and a barbeque.

Downstairs is a lounge/dining room, kitchen and shower room. Upstairs are two good sized bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other has two singles. In addition there is a fold-up bed which can be accommodated in either room if there are five people booking.

In the lounge area is the Charentaise fireplace with the woodburner and comfy seating for 5. There is a TV/video player and DVD player with a selection of videos and DVD's books and board games.

At the other end of the lounge is the dining area with a large farmhouse table and seating for 5 people. Mini Hi-Fi system with radio, CD and tape player. From the dining area you go through to the fully equipped kitchen, which has a gas cooker, micro-wave, fridge and washing machine and double sink unit.

The shower room, which is off the kitchen, has a loo, washbasin and shower area.

Stairs from the lounge area lead to the 2 bedrooms. There is a fold-up bed for use in either room if there are 5 people in the group.

The property is set in an acre of land which is mainly grass. Outside the front of the cottage is a patio and a terrace runs along the side of the cottage. There is a garden table, chairs and a parasol on each area and a barbeque for outdoor eating. Outdoor games (tennis, badminton, football, boules etc) are provided or if that is too energetic for you, enjoy a cooling dip in the above ground pool. The pool is 4.5 metres in diameter and 1.6 metres deep. This shared with Sunset Cottage.

Relax outside with a glass of local wine on a warm summer evening and look at the spectacular night skies. Due to no light pollution over the area you can see the stars in their thousands.

The sunrise is worth getting up for too!

Sunrise Cottage is two and a half kilometers outside the lovely village of Verteuil-sur-Charente, with it's beautiful castle, in the department of Charente, the second sunniest region in France.

Verteuil is five kilometers south of the market town of Ruffec. In the village are all amenities including two bakers, post office, a butcher, charcuterie, grocer, tabac, hairdresser and bar/restaurants and of course the stunning castle.

The chateau in Verteuil, with it's fairytale turrets, towers over the village. Spend a morning strolling around the narrow streets of the village and along the river by the mill, have lunch or an early evening drink in Porte Bleue or the Dixieland bars. Hotel La Paloma has a nice restaurant and a terrace for outside dining on warm summer evenings.

Visit the church and cemetery and take a riverside walk. There are lots of quiet roads and lanes around the cottage and the village for you to drive, cycle or walk along. Air de Rejallant is only 5 kilometres away, where you can bathe in the river, hire a canoe, have a picnic or enjoy lunch/dinner in the bar/restaurant beside the river.

Ruffec is a pretty market town 5km from Verteuil. There is a chateau and an ancient church. There are large supermarkets and a good selection of general shops and a choice of bars and brasseries.

We are ideally situated to visit the towns of Poitiers, Limoges, Angouleme and Cognac. The coastal town of La Rochelle and the sandy, west coast beaches are only one and a half hours drive away. Nearer is the ancient town of Confolens and the memorial village of Oradour-sur-Glane.

The cottages are available to book in units of a week which run from Saturday to Saturday.

We take long weekend and mid week bookings out of season from October to March. The cottage is also available for winter lets or house hunting trips. Contact us for rates.

From french ferry ports we are from 4hr 30mins - 7 hours away depending on your choice of crossing.
